Huntington Beach hosts an amazing array of special events each year, including the US Open of Surfing, professional beach volleyball tournaments, extreme sports and equestrian competitions, numerous concert series, Shakespeare in the Park, and many others. There's always something happening in HB.
Farmer's Market and Art A-Faire Description: Local and visitors alike enjoy this popular shopping event is held most Fridays at the outdoor Pier Plaza adjacent to the Huntington Beach Pier. It consists of a certified Farmer's Market with California grown fruits and vegetables and an art fair featuring over 50 vendors selling unique, hand made arts, gifts and crafts. Play - Lend Me a Tenor Description: Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig is a Tony Award winning comedy about mistaken identities, desperate measures and compromising positions. Set in the 1930's world of opera, Lend Me a Tenor is a delightful farce that mixes celebrity worship and backstage shenanigans to tell the story of Max, a simple young man who becomes an overnight singing sensation. Art Installation Event "Speak Out" Description: The Huntington Beach Art Center presents a series of cultural events in conjunction with Out of Context. Speak Out (Beach Eggs) is a site specific beach installation by artist Hoang Duong Cam. The artist would like to extend an invitation to youth and adult beach-goers to participate in this event. All participants should meet at the HBAC at 5 pm before embarking on a short walk to the site. Location: 538 Main Street, Huntington Beach Art Center
Art Exhibit- "Out of Context" Description: Exhibit explores contemporary art models from Vietnamese American artists and artists living in Vietnam. Includes panel discussions and special events. Sponsored in part by a grant from the Irvine Foundation. *On Sunday, July 17 an Artists and Curators Panel Discussion about Out of Context will be held from 2 - 4 pm. Orange County Fair Description: Fun for the whole family! The Orange County Fair, just minutes from Huntington Beach in Costa Mesa, offers concerts, live animals, rides, great food, performing arts and art exhibits. Location: 88 Fair Drive
"History of the Ukelele" Exhibit at HB International Surfing Museum Description: The Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum is home to a collection of some of the most significant artifacts in the history surfing. The museum's newest exhibit chronicles the history of the ukelele and features vintage ukeleles, Swagerty Ukeleles, vintage photographs, songbooks and more. *On May 21 the grand opening ceremonies showcase ukelele bands from near and far performing. Included in the lineup are the following - UkeLeiMe's; Jim Beloff; Kolohe' Ukelele Club featuring Bobby Tomei; and Bill Tapia - a 97 year old legendary uke artist who still tours the Country! Play - The Liar Description: Carlo Goldoni's classic comedy has never been funnier than this delightful new translation and adaptation from Sara and Andrew Barnicle. The story centers on Lelio, a young Venetian, incapable of telling the truth. As Lelio spins one outlandish whopper after another, complications multiply, creating an impossible tangle of misunderstandings. Saturday Sunrise Car Cruisers Description: As the Best Free Car Show in the World, this Saturday morning event has been a tradition for over 15 years. Classic auto owners known as the Donut Derelicts meet at the parking lot on the corner of Magnolia and Adams near Adams Avenue Donuts to share stories and admire their classic beauties. Luau - Polynesian Buffet and Entertainment Description: Pete Mallory's Surf City Sunset Grille at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa invites the public to "Dance with the Waves" this summer and enjoy an authentic Polynesian luau. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a lei before being treated to a traditional Hawaiian buffet, Huntington Beach style. After feasting and enjoying the music of old Hawaii in the background, the evening comes alive with an official tiki torch lighting ceremony, hula lessons, prizes and raffles and a Hawaiian shirt contest. Hawaiian rhythms of a Polynesian dance and music troop complete a perfect Southern California evening. Check-in for the event starts at 7:30 p.m. and dinner is served from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by the dance performance. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling (714)-845-4775. Literary Event at HBAC Description: The Huntington Beach Art Center presents a series of cultural events in conjunction with Out of Context. Readings by writers Andrew Lam and Troung Tran with spoken word performance by Mai Piece will take place on this day. Andrew Lam is an editor of Pacific News Service and a regular commentator on NPR's All Things Considered. Troung Tran is the recipient of numerous poetry fellowships including the California Arts Council and the Creative Fund Grant. In 2002, Do Le Anhidao, Jenni Trang Le, and Taylur Thu Hien Ngo formed Mai Piece, a spoken word collective. Location: 538 Main Street, Huntington Beach Art Center
Roller Blading Fun Roll Description: Come join the group of roller bladers each Saturday morning at 10:30am just north of the Huntington Beach Pier at the Pier Plaza amphitheater for a 16 miles round trip skate from Huntington to Newport Beach. It's at a nice and easy pace and all ages and levels are welcome - bicyclists, too! Join the group afterward for lunch in Huntington Beach. Location: North of the Huntington Beach Pier
